| What is the concept? | Push the button marked "Concept" below for more information on that. Basically it's a comic made from randomly generated images. |
| Where do the images come from? | The internet. Mostly Flickr. A lot of them look like vacation photos. Plus there are a disturbing number of photos of people's cats for some reason. |
| Isn't that a copyright violation? | The program used to generate the random photos should only be pulling photos that are tagged with the 'creative commons' tag, which would allow for derivative use. In addition, and without going into details, it is highly likely that this site is considered to be 'fair use', in the same way that a parody is considered fair use (ask your lawyer). I'm not hacking people's computers to get these pics, and I'm not selling them, or representing them as my own work. I even encourage readers to click on the links below the comic and see the original and learn more about the person who took the photo in the first place. If you see your photo here and don't like it, email me and I'll remove that one. |
| But aren't you profiting off other people's work? | Ha! This site generates no profit. Sure, there are some ads, but remember, Found Comics only gets 10-20 hits per day (seriously check the stats), so those ads generate no revenue, certainly not enough to even pay for the electricity used to compose the website. In theory, Found Comics is a gateway site to attract traffic to buy my novels, but I don't think I've sold a single novel through this site. Again, go to Amazon and look at the rankings for my books. I haven't sold a single one in months. |
| If it's random, how come some of the photos seem to have the same people in them sometimes? | When I say random, I mean random in that I don't chose the photos. The photos come from a photostream, which means that they are the most recent photos with that keyword tag. If someone posts multiple photos with the same keyword in a big bunch, I'll get several photos from the same set in a row. That actually makes it a little easier for me though, so you won't hear me complaining. |
| Are there photos you don't use? | Sometimes. If all 6 photos are obviously from the same source I won't use them. Or if some of the photos seem to be obviously copyrighted, commercial photos. And as aweXsome as I am, I can't always make a narrative from each set I get. So sometimes I'll just throw away a set because it's not interesting to me. |
| Can you use my photos in your comic? | Probably not. The photos are randomly generated. There's always a chance they might come up though. Feel free to send me some key words you'd like to see me use. |
| How often is the comic updated? | Every weekday, M-F, plus the occasional guest comic on Saturday if I've got any in the queue. |
| Can I do a guest comic? | Possibly. If you are interested in doing a guest comic, send me an email and I'll give you the details. You have to promise not to suck too much though. But c'mon, how much worse could you be than me? |
| Is this your only webcomic? | No. In fact, this is sort of a side project. My real webcomic is Tiny Ghosts, but that's only updated weekly. I actually create the images for that one, and it's a bit more 'artsy'. |
| Can I use the comics somewhere? | Well, I certainly don't care if you use them. I retain no copyright over anything on this site. You might have a problem with some of the people who originally took the photos, so you might want to ask them before you go distributing things wily-nily. Also, it's not a good idea to claim that you are me because I owe a lot of money to some pretty shady characters, and you really don't want those guys to come looking for you thinking you are me. |
As a bonus, here are some Found Comics banners to make your website look even more awesome!
